Beach buggy comes a cropper in Cleethorpes mud
A buggy got stuck in mud while trying to help people at risk of being cut off by the sea, a council said.
The vehicle belonging to North East Lincolnshire Council's Beach Safety Team became stranded on Cleethorpes beach on Thursday.
It was called in after foot patrols spotted three people in danger.
Efforts to free the bogged down buggy were abandoned due to the rising tide, a council spokesperson said.
The vehicle had been deployed to warn the people of the approaching tide using its speaker system, the council said.
The spokesperson said: "Unfortunately, whilst attending the incident, one of its wheels became stuck and despite our best efforts to rescue it, it had to be abandoned due to the rising tide.
"Crucially, the three people along with our beach safety staff are all safe.
"Recovery is being arranged and will be carried out when it is safe to do so."
The council spokesperson added: "This incident also highlights the importance of not straying out too far on the beach."
